Enjoy The Church House Gourmet Escape Dining Experience
Your hosts Peter and Mary have always loved to cook. The international flavours reflect their European background and extensive travel. Primarily using the freshest seasonal ingredients from their property, the saying “paddock to plate” has never been truer.
The Kitchen Garden – Guests enjoying their Gourmet Escape are welcome to explore the beautiful gardens around the property and Peter is always happy to accompany guests and chat about the seasonal vegetables and herbs that are grown for the table.
The Orchard – The orchard was originally planted with a variety of species of apples, pears, quince, stone fruit, citrus and nuts to name a few. Two oak and three hazelnut trees infused with truffle spores were also planted. Sadly no truffles yet! In 2011, 150 olive trees were planted and 5 years later our first picking yielded 7 ½ litres which was well worth the effort. We are looking forward to substantially bigger crops.
The Vineyard – We discovered the local vineyard Windy Ridge shortly after acquiring our property and obtained Pinot Noir cuttings in order to establish a hobby vineyard. Windy Ridge is now closed. A few years later we were introduced to Pinot Grigio from Bellvale at Berrys Creek and again cuttings were obtained and planted. The Pinot Noir vineyard was also extended along with a small number of Sauvignon Blanc vines. Local Pinot Noir, Grigio and Chardonnay wines are served along with warmer climate red wines.
Our aim is to grow sufficient quantity to make 365 bottles per year and to enjoy one per day.
