Enjoy The Church House Gourmet Escape Dining Experience
Your hosts Peter and Mary have always loved to cook. The international flavours reflect their European background and extensive travel. Primarily using the freshest seasonal ingredients from their kitchen garden, the saying “paddock to plate” has never been truer.
The Kitchen Garden – Guests enjoying their Gourmet Escape are welcome to explore the beautiful gardens around the property and Peter is always happy to accompany guests and chat about the seasonal vegetables and herbs that are grown for the table.
The Orchard – The orchard was originally planted with a variety of species of apples, pears, quince, stone fruit, citrus and nuts to name a few. More recently, two oak and three hazelnut trees infused with truffle spores were also planted. Sadly no truffles yet! In 2011, 250 olive trees were planted and 5 years later our first picking yielded 7 ½ litres which was well worth the effort. We are looking forward to a substantially bigger crop next season.
The Vineyard – We discovered the local vineyard Windy Ridge shortly after acquiring our property and obtained Pinot Noir cuttings in order to establish a hobby vineyard. A few years later we were introduced to Pinot Grigio from Bellvale at Leongatha and again cuttings were obtained and planted. The Pinot Noir vineyard was also extended along with a small number of Sauvignon Blanc vines. These stunning local wines compliment the food and are an important element of your Gourmet Escape experience
The aim is to grow sufficient quantity to make 365 bottles per year and to enjoy one per day.
Breakfast is usually served on the East Veranda, at an hour that suits you. On offer is a selection of home baked pastries, bread, cereal, muesli and preserved fruits followed by a cooked breakfast serving eggs from Allegria’s own chickens and our own hand-made sausages.
Alternatively, you can enjoy a leisurely light continental breakfast and then wander to the neighbouring Waratah Hills Vineyard for complimentary wine tasting and tapas-style brunch before heading homeward (Open 11-4 pm with wine by the glass or bottle available).
